About this Course

Welcome to the Frederick Douglass R-Center! We offer FREE, OPEN RECREATION for youth ages 6-12. “Open Recreation” means that your child will be SUPERVISED when he/she/they are in ORGANIZED ACTIVITIES. Our program is not a “DAY CAMP” or “DAY CARE”. We offer a variety fun and engaging activities throughout the day; your child can choose which ones they wish to participate in. If your child chooses to leave the center on their own, they are free to do so. We expect that the youth who come to the center will obey the rules, and respect the staff and other participants. For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, if your child is disruptive or becomes a disciplinary problem, you will be contacted and we may ask that you remove your child from the program. Children must have an alternate place to spend their day if they are asked to leave the recreation center for any reason. This school year boasts a variety of program options: youth groups, sports training, sports leagues, field trips, gardening, STEM and dance & fitness to name a few! Because of New York State regulations, children under age 6 must be accompanied by, and remain with, a responsible person age 18 or over. Parents are required to provide proof of their child’s age upon request. Some 6-year-olds may not be mature enough for the “open” nature of our program. Staff will keep parents informed and may request removal of a child who is unable to adapt to our program. HEALTH & SAFETY Staff is not allowed to hold or dispense any medications for children. In case of an accident, First Aid will be administered as necessary. You will be contacted if we feel your child needs further medical attention. Shoes and shirts must be worn at all times.
